Spring Break!!!

We had a really full spring break. We went to the movies and saw Wreck it Ralph.  We went to Lake Farm Park, the Great Lakes Science Center, we met Dave for lunch 2 times, went to the Art Museum, we had play dates with friends, went to the Goldfish indoor swimming pool, went to Eggshelland.  And the kids still said they were bored at the end of the week.  Sigh. :)

Dinosaur at the Natural History Museum.
The Cleveland Art Museum.  Probably my most favorite place to go in Cleveland.  Love their new gallery one exhibit.  Technology+art.  So cool.
I would love to have a room like the following pictures in my house...
The Great Lakes Science Center
Checking out all of the cool science exhibits.
Bubble Station.
We shocked a few people after touching this ball, then noticed the sign next to it that said to NOT do exactly that. :) No worries, no permanent damage done.

Spring Break!!!

First Stop:
EGGSHELLAND!!!
We met up with Shawny and her kids over Spring break to check out Eggshelland.  I've been hearing about it for years! This woman and her husband have been making pictures out of eggshells every Easter for the past 55 years!!  Crazy!!  Her husband died last year so this is the final year she is doing it.  They keep the eggshells and just re-use them every year.  They painted each individual egg shell.  Trevor loved counting how many eggshells were in each word.

Sidewalk chalk

My kids still have (and use) their pastels from the Chalk fest at the Cleveland Art museum from last year. I love it when they are creative like this.  This is our sidewalk out in front of our yard.

Trevor's epiphany

According to Trevor, adults don't do anything (we like to set a really great example around our house :)).  He believes that adults have no responsibilities, they can stay up as late as they want, they don't have to eat all of their dinner, they can sneak treats and snacks, they don't have to do homework.  He heard a song that reminded him of what he thinks being an adult will be like.  The lyrics talked about sitting around doing nothing whenever you want.  He said (and I quote:)), "This should be the anthem for adults.  This is the glory of adulthood."

In his defense, we are guilty as charged :
  • Dave and I stay up late watching movies A LOT
  • Dave and I make treats pretty much all the time...but not until after the kids go to bed so that they can't beg for them and we can eat them all
  • Dave and I drink special beverages (i.e. gourmet soda...Virgils root beer and Sprechers Cream Soda are our favs)
  • Dave and I go on date nights a lot and do a lot of separate girl nights and guy nights out (the kids usually get to go to friends houses while we do this so it is fun times all around for everyone)

The White Squirrel

We found an intruder stealing our birdseed.
Enter the white squirrel...

My love for Jack Handey

May 18th
I've been packing and boxing books this week and came across an old beloved. :)  Deeper Thoughts by Jack Handey.  Please tell me you have read these little books.  I also own Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.  So funny.  Here are a few of his classic quotes....

"If I had the time to sit down and write a thank-you note to everyone who sent me a nice, expensive present, what a wonderful world that would be!"

"If you're ever selling your house, and some people come by, and a big rat comes out and he's dragging the rattrap because it didn't quite kill him, just tell the people he's your pet and that's a trick you taught him."

"I bet if you were a mummy wrapper in ancient Egypt, one thing you would constantly find yourself telling people would be, 'Be sure, before I start, you have all the jewelry and so forth on the body, because I am not unwrapping him later.'"

"If you're traveling in a time machine, and you're eating corn on the cob, I don't think it's going to affect things one way or the other.  But here's the point I'm trying to make: Corn on the cob is good, isn't it."

"If aliens from outer space ever come and we show them our civilization and they make fun of it, we should say we were just kidding, that this isn't really our civilization, but a gag we hoped they would like.  Then we tell them to come back in twenty years to see our real civilization.  After that, we start a crash program of coming up with an impressive new civilization.  Either that, or just shoot down the aliens as they're waving good-bye."

"Something tells me that the first mousetrap wasn't designed to catch mice at all, but to protect little cheese 'gems' from burglars."

Oh man, these quotes make me laugh so hard.

Ashlyn's Rock Star Party

Epic.  Festivities included: Rock Star dress-ups (thanks to friends for letting me borrow skirts!), Just Dance 4, Karaoke (which I could not get to work!  Where is Dave when I need him?:)), pink and blue hair chalk, a star pinata, pizza & cake & ice cream with Sparklers for candles and a movie.  Ashlyn had a great time with her friends.

We had a little station for the girls to get dressed up like rock stars if they wanted anything extra, along with nail polish and hair chalk
