Well, every year I do a scavenger hunt to lead the kids to their Valentine's day treats. My mom always gave us books on Valentine's day, so that is what I do too. I leave a trail of heart confetti or conversation hearts that lead to their treats. I also have 2 other treats for them along the path of confetti leading to their books. Trevor was too exhausted to do the scavenger hunt so we brought his gifts to him. Then Corbin helped me make the heart-shaped pizza with heart-shaped pepperoni's on them. Trevor felt well enough to join us for dinner. Yay!
FEBRUARY 10, 2011 Ashlyn and Corbin had a preschool field trip to the fire station, organized by the moms in our preschool group. Here are the pictures.
FEB. 05, 2011 Everyone is turning 8 and getting baptized this year! Trevor's 8th birthday is in July and he is so excited to get baptized and to start scouts. Here is a picture of Trevor's friend Jaxson at his baptism--
Have you ever had all of your kids sleep in the same room? Was it a disaster? I mean, it probably was fun, the kids probably laughed and talked and played in their beds and had a jolly good time, right? But did they ever fall asleep?....before 10?!! Not in my house. The boys really wanted us to put the bunk beds together so they could sleep in the same room. All three of my kids have their own room and usually sleep in their own rooms, but we decided a change would be good so we put the beds together. And then Ashlyn wanted to join, so all three were sleeping in the same room. This little experiment lasted 2 weeks and every night it was PARTY CENTRAL until 10 pm! So, the bunk beds got taken down. The boys started crying hysterically and I got a really funny video of it. They were rolling around on the beds crying (over-dramatic, yes?:)). I busted out the video camera and Corbin immediately stopped crying and started smiling at the camera. It was so funny. If I turned the camera off he would cry again. Here is the bunk bed to be saved for another time when they are a little older and can go to bed on time... Dave made this bunk bed when Trevor was 3. A teacher from school had all of the tools and he and Dave worked hard drawing the plans, buying the wood and building it.
FEB. 02, 2011 For all of you who have girls, you've probably heard of the Fancy Nancy book series. Our local library put on a Fancy Nancy party for anyone who wanted to come. Everyone wore Fancy clothes, ate fancy food (sprinkle cookies and juice boxes), and made fancy crafts (wands, fans, bead bracelets) and played fancy games (bean bag toss). The kids even got to parade around the library in their fancy clothes and then the librarian read a Fancy Nancy book to the kids. It was SO CUTE!! Dave was at work so the boys (reluctantly) had to come along. I'm sure they enjoyed the story but I think everything else was a little too fancy for them. Every time we have another library event to go to Trevor asks, "It's not going to be like that fancy party is it?!" :) Ashlyn loved it by the way. Here are some pics. Ashlyn picked out her own fancy outfit to wear.
JAN. 2011 Trevor loves science experiments. Here is one that we did that was really cool.
Put 4 TBS of vinegar in a plastic bottle. Put 2 tsp baking soda in a balloon. Put the balloon over the top of the bottle and pour the baking soda into the bottle of vinegar. The balloon will expand.
JAN. 29,2011 We got the hang out with the Rynearson's again. The kids were so excited. I went to the Temple while my friend, Katie, watched the kids. We then went to Graeder's ice cream shop(Corbin and Ashlyn call it 3rd Graders:)). It was a great day.
The song, Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar, keeps replaying in my mind every time I think of this story. 2 weeks ago I made chocolate chip cookies right before dinner. If the kids ate all of their dinner without me asking them to eat, they could have a cookie afterwards. Ashlyn was the only one to finish her dinner (and got a cookie) so the boys were out of luck until the following night. The boys started crying. Ashlyn went over and whispered something in their ears and they immediately stopped. Then Corbin kept asking me when I was going to bed over and over again. So, I knew something was up. I put the kids to bed, told them that I was going to bed right then and then hid behind my door (with a video camera in hand) to wait for the plot to unfold. The next several minutes consisted of the whispered plan. Corbin was being sent out to check and see if I had fallen asleep yet (I had stuffed my blankets with a pillow to make it look like I was in bed...yes I used to be the master of pranks in college). Then Trevor and Corbin were going to stay behind so that Ashlyn could sneak down tip-toe style to grab a cookie for Trevor and Corbin off the counter. The second she started sneaking down the stairs I followed far enough behind her with my video camera so that she couldn't see me. Trevor spotted me and started yelling for Ashlyn to abort! But not before I snapped this shot.... Does she look guilty or what?! We all laughed so hard!
Trevor explaining the planets to Corbin and Ashlyn-- "On jupiter there are a bunch of meteors that blast each other! On Neptune there is acid rain. On mercury there are a bunch of whirl pools."
Ashlyn, "Really, there are whirl pools?!"
Trevor, "No, I'm just kidding but on Mars there really are alien robots."
Trevor lost one of his Knex pieces and he can't finish the project until he finds it. I told him, don't worry we will be able to find it and he said, "I know. I prayed."
Ashlyn came to me yesterday (2-15-2011) and she smelled so good! I asked her about it and she said that she put lotion all over her arms and face. And then she said with a big smile, "I even licked it! hehehehe" I had her show me the lotion she used and it turns out that it was Dave's deodorant. :) yummy.
I have to write this so that I remember. Ashlyn and Corbin's favorite word, starting last October 2010, is eyeball. They think it is HILARIOUS! If I asked them what they wanted to be for Halloween they would say, "EYEBALL!" and bust up laughing. Seriously for 3 months straight they would always bring up the word eyeball whenever they could.
