Oh how my kids make me laugh...

So Ashlyn always has a hard time when I try to do her hair. She basically just doesn't like it and tries to come up with any excuse for me not to do it. Yesterday when I mentioned it was time for me to do her hair she said, "But Mom, I am already beautiful, look at me!!"

Corbin also is being funny. He is so MISCHIEVOUS! Today Ashlyn had some friends over for a play date and while they were all dressed up sitting at the tea party table, he snuck around, gathered all of their princess shoes and threw them down the stairs! -With a big smile on his face! (I watched the whole thing and secretly laughed:)). Then during lunch he took a piece of his string cheese and put it on one of the girls shoulders without them knowing, giggling the whole way. Why?!!:)

It has finally happened...

The thing that I swore would never happen to us, happened. Yes, our entire hard drive with pictures from birth to present, journals from college to present and tons of other files completely lost. Possibly forever, but we won't know for sure until we pay the $1000 the computer people are asking for in order to tell us. SO SAD!! The worst part is that it was my fault. :) Little did I know at the time that dropping a 20 lb laptop on a portable hard drive does not equal pleasant results.

A note from Ashlyn's sunday school teacher...so cute and funny

Today Ryan and I were teaching our Sunbeam Class (3-4 year-olds) about the creation and Adam and Eve. The children would pick a picture (birds, the sun, moon, stars, flowers, different animals,...) and we would ask who created it, they would respond by saying, "Heavenly Father and Jesus". A picture of a reindeer came up and we asked who created it, the children, in unison, yelled, "SANTA"!

I reserve the right...

to have a boring blog. :) I was finally convinced to start one because a couple of friends shared that it is a great way to keep a journal. Thus, the day-to-day events of our life...

Spring Break

Last week was Trevor and Ashlyn's spring break from school. We took advantage of the warm weather. We rode bikes every day. We went to the zoo and to the park. We managed to fit every boy that came with us on the tire swing. They had so much fun!
THE ZOO...

So, funny story about the above picture. We went to the zoo with a few friends and one of my friends has this adorable boy named Aiden (pictured above with Ashlyn). He is 10 and to make sure the kids were safe we made them stay with a partner. My friend partnered Aiden up with Ashlyn and he was so good to watch after her. When they first were paired up Ashlyn grabbed his hand and looked up at him and Aiden casually goes, "So....what preschool do you go to?" It was so funny because it totally sounded like a pick-up line, but he was just trying to make conversation. Love those kids! p.s. Ashlyn INSISTS on dressing herself these days...gotta nurture her creative flare!

Also during spring break we went out for ice cream, went to the Great Lakes Science Center and hung out with friends. Two of Trevor's friends, Kimball and Molly were baptized Friday night and we were able to go to it.

On Saturday we had an Easter Egg hunt at the church.

The egg hunt was pretty funny. They probably had a million eggs out for everyone to grab and kids swarmed the place like a bear to honey (ok that's totally something Dave would say. Can you tell we've been married for almost 8 years?:)). Anyway, Trevor held his own in the swarm of kids and was able to get a few, but Ashlyn and Corbin were working in S...L...O...W motion. Seriously. I need to go over Easter egg hunt 101 before we go again. :) Corbin's method was to get an egg, open it up, eat all the candy inside and then move onto finding the next one. Ashlyn had to examine every plastic egg she found...as if each of them looked different from one another...therefore she was only able to score 2 (yes TWO) Easter eggs out of the million that were there. This is her sad face about it...

Is it bad that her sad face made me laugh? :) Her unhappiness only lasted for 30 seconds and then she was happy again.

The kids had a great time playing with friends and running around. I love our ward.

Then we watched conference which, of course, was awesome (at least the parts that we were able to see when the kids were settled down) In between sessions, we went to Kirtland (a conference tradition). We saw the Reflections of Christ exhibit and it was really intriguing. That is the best word I can use to describe how I felt about it. Almost sacrilegious to me because of how human they made Christ look, but still beautiful work. Thus, intriguing. Trevor asked a MILLION questions about Christ and bonded with the Missionary couple that took us through the exhibit. Trevor was worried about Jesus and how he was bleeding from the thorns. It is so sweet to view Christ's story through the eye of a child. It was a really great time. Here we are at the Reflections of Christ exhibit in Kirtland...

Then we went to fly kites at the Polo fields.

It was SO WINDY. My kids almost blew away, I'm not kidding. Trevor's kite was practically ripped from his hands (ok that's what he thinks, but I'm pretty sure he just let go of it:)) and the kite flew about 20 feet away as we are all trying to run after it and grab it before it did so. It got stuck in a tall tree but we were able to get it down. In the meantime, Ashlyn (so sad) was holding onto her kite for dear life crying her eyeballs out thinking that either the wind was going to take her to the tops of the trees or her kite and she was bound and determined not to let either of those things happen. When we ran to her she had the death grip on the kite and kept saying through tears "I don't want my kite to fly into the trees!" It was so sad but I was proud of her for being strong and brave! My brother and SIL, Andrew and Kristi, sent us these really cool kites a couple of years ago. One is a dragon and the other is a beetle and they love to fly them. Ok, I even love to fly them and have a hard time sharing... :)

After kite flying and the visit to the Kirtland Historic sites we went home and watched conference. Dave went to Priesthood session (which he loved) and I cleaned the house.

The next morning (Easter) we went to our friends, the Loveless' house for their famous conference cinnamon rolls. THEY WERE DELICIOUS WITH A CAPITAL DELICIOUS! We had fun spending time with them. Then we went home and watched conference. Then we went to our friends the Anderson's house for Easter dinner. Also DELICIOUS WITH A CAPITAL DELICIOUS! And a backyard Easter egg hunt. It was so nice to have friends to spend Easter with since our extended family is so far away.

I made gospel BINGO cards and other activities for the kids to play with while they watched Conference.

Monday was the last day of Spring break and the kids played outside ALL DAY LONG. Seriously, from 10am until 7pm they were outside. They jumped on the trampoline, made a "dam" with water and rocks, used squirt sticks, got the trampoline wet and jumped, rode bikes. They did it all. They even found bugs from the garden to put in their jars. Our neighborhood friend, Marie, came over and joined the fun for pretty much the whole day too. I love warm weather.

Dave has been on Labor and Delivery at work and he has delivered 7 babies thus far. He actually had a really good experience the first time. The mom was a 28 year-old breast cancer survivor and she was so excited about life and being alive. Dave said that the doctor found her in the middle of the night just standing by the baby's crib in the hospital just smiling at her new baby. Sweet, huh? Dave said that during the labor part she grabbed her husband's hand and smiled at him and said, "I don't even hate you right now!" funny. I am so happy for her and I don't even know her.
