We visited President Garfield's house and the kids participated in a junior ranger program there.

The last president born in a log cabin, James A. Garfield rose from extreme poverty to the nation's highest office through education, hard work, and personal dedication. Shot by an assassin after four months in office, his presidency lasted just 200 days in 1881 and left the nation wondering what he might have accomplished. (http://www.nps.gov/jaga/index.htm)
