Baseball 2012

THE LOOKOUTS

Trevor spent a lot of his time playing second base.

New Wall Decor

I stole an idea from one of my favorite DIY blogs, Allthingsthrifty.com.
I made a wall collage that I love.

The Pine Wood Derby

I never posted about our Pine Wood Derby. Trevor loved his first Derby experience. He won first place in his division and 2nd place out of the whole stake boy scout group. Our ward has a great group of scouts that really cheered each other on.

I took the kids out for lunch at Red Robbin to celebrate Trevor's victory.

Book of the Week

OUT OF THE DUST
(June 25, 2012)

This book was written in free-verse poem style and I really liked it.  I thought the words were beautiful and the story captured just how hard it was to live in the dust bowl during the depression.

MATCHED
(July 2, 2012)

This new series by Ally Condie is good.  It is a quick read and feels a lot like the flow of Hunger Games.  I would say the story is a mesh of Hunger Games and The Giver.  It left me wanting to read the second book to find out what happens.

CROSSED
(July 9, 2012)

The series lost a little bit of it's steam with book 2.  There was a lot of information and not enough suspense.  I would talk about this book with my sis-in-law and we would always say, "If the author only added this, or changed that little part, or led up to it more..."  It was still enough to get me to want to read the third and final book due out in November.  I think it will be her best one of the three.

LADDIE
(July 16, 2012)

My mom recommended this book and it did not disappoint.  Stratton Porter LOVES to give TONS of detail about NATURE which is slightly annoying...but besides that it was really great.  It is full of goodness.  There is nothing bad in this book.  It is an interesting story and the characters in the book are full of integrity and are close to God.  I loved that.  My mom also recommended Freckles by the same author and I have enjoyed reading it thus far.

CHRONICLES OF NARNIA
(July 23, 2012)
I am reading this series to my kids.  Thanks to a recommendation from a friend.  They LOVE these books!!  This is a great series for parents who want to read to their kids every night.

Girl time

I don't think I could survive all of these years of having a husband in school without a little girl time. (I know, I'm whining when Dave is the one that is actually going to school, not me, but still!!) My friends are such a support, especially living so far from family. There were several people that moved (yet again) at the end of the grad school year. We were so sad to see everyone go. Here are a few shots that include one of my good friends, Marilyn.

This picture just makes me laugh...

Father's Day 2012

We had a pretty incredible Father's Day, if I do say so myself.  It started off with the kids making an amazing tie for Dave for Father's Day (thank you Jenn and Mary for the idea).  The kids loved making it and Dave actually wore it!
The kids used stamps to make finger print insects on the tie (it is the best I could come up with!:))  They made butterflies, caterpillars, ants, bees.
We took some father's day pictures...I love how my nephew Kaiden is in all of these pictures.
It must mean that he thinks Dave is the best Dad ever. ;)  (that's for Andrew)
We made a special dinner for Dave and just spent time
playing the game spoons and hanging out as a family.

And maybe the best part of the whole day....
MEETING MITT ROMNEY!!!!
Yes, that is Dave and Trevor in the background.  We arrived at this pancake breakfast for Mitt and it was pouring rain.  As we walked in (dressed in our Sunday clothes) we were greeted by the campaign staff who said they had special seats for us.  We were immediately ushered to a "reserved" table.  It was in the back of the stage and we were joking around about how "special" they really were.  We were kind of far away and watching the back of people as they gave their speeches.

The next thing we knew, the clouds parted and the sun began to shine (no joke) just as Mitt Romeny's bus rolled in--RIGHT BEHIND US!   Mitt Romney and his wife and their son got out and shook all of our hands and asked us how we were doing and made small talk right before they walked to the stage to speak.  It was so cool. The next day we saw that Trevor and Dave made all of the newspapers that covered this story (they were standing on a table together so they could see...the other kids were up there at various points too).

My mom treats us to Kalahari every year.  It is an indoor water park.  It is awesome.
