Jackson Hole and hiking

July 6, 2012

This was my children's first trip to Jackson Hole.

The girls had tons of fun trying to capture this squirrel...
Dave's cousin, Angela, hooked us up with a very cool hike...that I forget the name of...:)  We had to take a boat across the lake to start the hike.

It just happened to start pouring rain as soon as we got there. :)
Boat ride over...
Thomas made friends with the chipmunks...

FIREWORKS

JULY 4, 2012

Every 4th of July, Dave's family reserves the same spot on a grassy knoll next to the Snake River.  When it gets dark, fireworks are lit off just on the other side of the river from us.  Dave's Uncle Richard even makes plastic protective shields just in case the firework debris falls on us from the sky.  We are that close.  It is incredible.

Amy (a girl I knew from growing up in San Diego) actually married into the same family.  Crazy coincidence!  It is fun to see her at family events.

THE ROMAN CANDLE WAR--TO END ALL WARS

 JULY 3, 2012

THIS IS ALL KINDS OF CRAZY.  Every year, Dave's cousins have a Roman Candle war in their backyard (Uncle Robert's house).  It is not some sissy battle.  It is like the World War II of Roman Candle Wars.  They do not mess around.
  • They wear protective eye gear
  • They wear padded clothing
  • They set up an arena with chalk outlines and tables flipped on their sides
  • They have a goal at each end of the arena
  • They do a warm-up lap before they start the game that includes running past all of us sitting on the wall watching, and dole out high fives as we pray that they don't die, or at the very least don't lose an eye.
Then the games begin.  And it goes something like this.....

I can't wait for next year.
