MOMMY/DAUGHTER TEA PARTY

Ashlyn and I went to a tea party with our friends Agnes and Ivette. It was really cute with sprinkle cookies and lemonade, a story teller from the library and a musician that played kids songs that got everyone dancing.

Ashlyn and Corbin's field trip

We took Ashlyn and Corbin's preschool group to the Natural History Museum. The Museum has a space room that went along with our theme for the week and then we walked through the rest of the museum. I'm trying to locate my pictures from this...

Elf on the Shelf

This is Trickster

He is our Elf on the Shelf. What is that you ask? Go here:
http://www.elfontheshelf.com/
The first day we got him, the kids wrote a letter to Santa and gave it to the Elf to deliver to old St. Nick. Santa then gave Trickster the Elf written letters back to the kids.

Every night the Elf flies to the North Pole to report to Santa Claus if the kids have been naughty or nice. Of course the kids want to be on the nice list. When he flies back from the North Pole he lands in a different part of the house and when the kids wake up in the morning they have to look through the house to find him. Since naming our elf "Trickster" (thanks Ashlyn for coming up with that and for the rest of the kids agreeing) and having him a part of our home until Christmas the kids have a) stopped tattling on each other to me and have now started tattling on each other to the Elf; b)gotten rid of left over Halloween candy by feeding it to the Elf; c)fought less because they don't want to get caught being naughty. Let's just say, I love Trickster a million times a lot.

The Elf came with a book that we read together (and have read multiple times since) that explains how the Elf works.

The kids were very confused as to how Trickster gets from our house (which is locked and bolted solid like an impenetrable fortress...if you know how paranoid I am about burglars you know how true this is)to the outside where the north pole is. I said, good point, let's ask Trickster. So they wrote a list of possibilities and asked Trickster the Elf if he could circle the one that was right. Here were their ideas of how Trickster makes it to the outside world every night....
1. He teleports
2. He waits for Dad to leave in the morning and then sneaks out behind him
3. He goes through the lock of the door knob
4. He shrinks down and fits through a mouse hole (please tell me I have none of these in my house...)
5. He walks through walls
6. He turns invisible and sneaks out
7. He shrinks down and fits through a crack

Trickster responded by circling Number 7 and also wrote this poem:

Another Class Field Trip for Trevor

The Art Museum

I have to say this is one of my very favorite places to visit.

Thanksgiving 2010

We went to the Day's house. We had a great time. Ali's sister and brother-in-law came too.

The next day we went to see the movie TANGLED. We all loved it!

Then we went to the ZOO. We watched the bats hang upside down and I asked the kids why they thought they hang upside down. Ashlyn said, "That is easy. First, they can take off flying easier that way. Second, it's just fun."

Here are my handsome boys...

The Gharial came right up to the window. All of the animals were crazy active while we were there. It was a really fun time to go.

The Fishing Cat--

Columbus Temple

When we go to the temple we always stop at the local ice cream shop as a treat for the kids. The trip to the temple is 6 hours long. That's a lot of time in the car so we try to make it fun for the kids. Last time we went, we got to see Katie and Maddie and Bella. It was so fun. I'll post the awesome pictures that Dave took of the Temple later.

Last Day of Learning Garden

We had our last day of the Learning Garden on Nov. 23. It was an outdoor party filled with cookies and activities. We decorated birdhouses that they took home and terracotta pots filled with tomato seeds that they could take home and start growing right before next spring. And of course we played a few outdoor games as well. Have I mentioned how great these kids are? They are.
